Philadelphia Freedom, a Stateside Spring Getaway

Travel deals are plentiful heading toward this Memorial Day weekend especially if you’re looking for a European shopping and museum trip or Caribbean getaway. But if you prefer rather stay stateside this spring, consider Philadelphia, PA, a city that’s worth returning to time and again. I spent six years of my life in Philly and although it’s been a long time since I moved away, I always manage to find new things to do when I go back.
The Liberty Bell and Independence Mall are Philadelphia’s most famous attractions. Here are some other enjoyable ways to pass your time in Philly, the City of Brotherly Love.
1. The Philadelphia Museum of Art has an extensive collection of Asian art spanning from 2500 B.C. The Musuem is currently running an exhibition on Picasso and the Avant-Garde in Paris and the cafeteria is good too.
2. Not to be overlooked is the African American Museum of Philadelphia. A special feature of this Museum is “Audacious Freedom: African Americans in Philadelphia 1776-1876″ that re-counts stories and contributions made by people of African descent in the area.
